The Dragons won’t be basking in our warm waters this year…

The 10th year of our Dragon Festival is postponed indefinitely

It’s difficult to imagine a grand return to our beloved Festival in these times; it is neither safe nor realistic to plan large community events where Covid-19 precautions and measures are difficult to maintain. Dragonboating, both at the community and national levels, is struggling with the changes brought on by this pandemic, but we hope to one day revisit a return to sunny, scaly days on our beautiful River.

Hosting a safe Gun Island Chute SUP Cup is still feasible, which is why we’re happy to announce the amended date for the 4th-annual race. Individual paddle-boarders of all levels are invited to race for cash prizes, medals, and more on Labor Day weekend here on the Downtown portion of our beautiful Alabama River. Stay tuned for updates on the event and how we’ll keep it safe and distanced!

Gun Island Chute SUP Cup is tentatively a go!

The Southern Stoke Paddle Series has made the GIC SUP Cup the 4th stop in their 8-race series this year! We’re happy to be able to once again bring competitive Stand-Up-Paddleboarding to the Riverfront! After amending the date and drafting a plan for Covid-19 measures, we’re excited to open registration for the 4th-annual GIC Sup Cup, scheduled for September 5, 2020!
